Changes at FionaBroome.com

After speaking at five panels during Dragon*Con 2009, and discussing my work with friends, fans and fellow professionals, this website needed updating.

I’ve been ambivalent about being portrayed as a ghost hunter, a faerie expert, a psychic, or any other single label.

My work includes research in fields other than hauntings, though most people know me from my many years as a ghost investigator.

Likewise, I am a psychic, and have been all of my life.  (I believe that almost everyone has psychic gifts, just as almost everyone can sing. What varies is degree of talent, and — even more — how much it’s practiced.)

Especially since ghost hunting became popular, the psychic field has become increasingly tarnished by fakes. I’m reluctant to risk further association with them.  So, I don’t portray myself as a psychic researcher.

Currently, I’m studying the real influence of dust, pollen, smoke and humidity on ghost photography. It’s less of a factor than many people — including me — have believed. This will be presented in my upcoming book, Ghost Photography 101.

My work also involves analyzing and predicting why, where, and sometimes when anomalies and paranormal events will be reported.  That will be my primary focus for the immediate future.  I’m using history, geography and statistics for this work, and several other important elements that I’ll discuss in my 2010 book, Paranormal Patterns: Predicting Anomalies and Hauntings.

I’m increasing my work with historical and genealogical records, to confirm (or refute) some ghost stories.  In 2010, I’ll write a how-to manual on this subject, as well.

I’ll also be experimenting with scientific tools that go far beyond the flashing lights (literally and figuratively) that you see on ghost-related TV shows.

At Dragon*Con 2009, I was immersed in conversations about everything from Sliders, Primeval and Quantum Leap, to Expanding Earth Theory, wormholes and alternate history.  That exchange of ideas was energizing and tremendous fun.

So, you’ll see this website site shifting towards my unique work, and away from one-size-fits-all labels that aren’t quite right for what I do.
