Fictional characters… and me

Jan 20th, 2010 | By Fiona | Category: Fiona's diary

My friend Christian Day started a challenge this week at Facebook.  He asked us to post a photo of someone fictional that best represents our respective personalities.   Decisions, decisions!

My first thought was, “any girl in Edward Eager books.”  I read them all, several times, when I was growing up.  They were an early version of the Harry Potter stories, in a way.

I also identified with many Edward Gorey characters… the wide-eyed little girls in tea gowns, that is.

Then I was thinking of Pollyanna, as portrayed by Hayley Mills.

It still wasn’t right.

Finally, I remembered Harold and the Purple Crayon.  Okay, I’m very female, but the concept is a pretty good match.  I’ve always believed that I can create my own reality, especially with my artwork.

I also identify with many characters in P. G. Wodehouse novels, particularly the Bertie Wooster stories set in the U.K., and any lead character in Jane Austen novels.

And, of course, I was convinced I was like Cathy in Wuthering Heights, too… but I think most young women identified with her passion, at some point.

I’m not sure that I’ve thought of the best match yet, but it’s an interesting challenge.

If this intrigues you, too, let me know which fictional character matches your personality.
