‘Ghost season’ review

Nov 17th, 2009 | By Fiona | Category: Fiona's diary

candle-clock“Ghost season” is what I call Halloween-related busyness.  This year, it began around August 15th with early media interviews, and peaked (as usual) during the week of Halloween.

It’s always a whirlwind, and this year was the busiest yet.  Though it can be exhausting, it’s always productive and fun.

This week, I finally resume a relatively normal schedule. Whew!  Of course, “normal” for me includes about five books at various stages of completion.  Right now, I’m working on:

  • Ghost Photography 101 – Though I thought the book was nearly ready to publish, the Tenney Gate House investigation highlighted one issue I’d left out of the book… and need cold weather to include.
  • The Ghosts of Salem, Massachusetts – Other projects moved this to “on hold” mode for about half of 2009, but I’m researching & writing this book, now.  My goal is to see it in print — along with a companion volume — by the end of 2010.
  • Paranormal Patterns – I’ve begun talking about the unique (and rather dry, statistics-based) way that I identify “haunted” locations.  I’m compiling a book to illustrate my techniques, with examples I’ve never revealed before.
  • Gilson Road Cemetery – After popularizing this very haunted Nashua (NH) cemetery over ten years ago, I’m compiling its haunted history, folklore, and the results of investigations in a book-length work.

I’m also working on a couple of other projects, at least one of which will be in print (or close to it) by the end of 2009.  I’ve quietly, published the companion volume (it’ll only interest the most hard-core ghost enthusiasts) and I’m working on the main book, in my spare time.

And, I’m still reviewing hundreds of ghost-related photos that I took during October.

All in all, it was a great “ghost season” and I met so many wonderful people… well, it was my best year, yet.

Now, with a few days to reorganize my office (it’s a shambles, with stacks of books, notes and research equipment everywhere) and generally catch up, I’m very excited to continue my research & writing through the winter.
